We are delighted to take this opportunity to encourage readers of this blog to submit an article to Palliative Medicine in Practice, which is an official journal of the Polish Association for Palliative Care (PAPC) – an Associate Member of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC).

Palliative Medicine in Practice is an interdisciplinary journal aimed at practitioners of different kinds of support: physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, chaplains, and volunteers. We welcome articles (original, review or a case report), commentaries or a report from scientific meetings for publication. Palliative Medicine in Practice is a fully open access journal but in contrast to many other existing journals there is no fee for authors for publishing their manuscripts with open access. Palliative Medicine in Practice may thus be especially interesting for authors with limited resources who want high visibility and citations of their scientific achievements. The official language of the journal is English.

Palliative Medicine in Practice is devoted to all aspects of palliative and supportive care. A fast and friendly double-blind peer-review process (in which authors do not know reviewers and reviewers cannot identify authors) is used for all submissions that are in appropriate format and within the aims and scope of the journal.

The journal is published by Via Medica four times a year in both electronic (the primary version) and print. We produce a newsletter with each issue providing a content alert. All past and current articles are available for free from our web page.

The journal is indexed in Scopus (under a former name Medycyna Paliatywna w Praktyce, which was published in Polish from 2007–2017) and since 2018 has published manuscripts in English. Palliative Medicine in Practice is indexed in Embase, EMCare, Index Copernicus, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Medical Journals Links, Mosby Nursing Consult, Mosby’s Index, Polish Medical Bibliography, and Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory.

Our editorial board is composed of well-known scientists mostly from Europe, often with close links with the EAPC.  Among others are Prof. David Oliver, a Vice Editor–in–Chief, Dr Robert Twycross, Prof. Sebastiano Mercadante, Prof. Philip Larkin, Prof. Sam Ahmedzai, Dr Tony O’Brien, Associate Professor Yvonne Engels, Prof. Mike Bennett, Dr Andrew Davies, and Prof. David Currow.

Disseminate your work through open access

We do hope that through open access that is free of charge for authors we may quickly disseminate progress in knowledge among everyone involved in palliative and supportive care in Europe, and other parts of the world. You can find full information on the electronic submission process and instructions for authors at:

Or, please do contact us if you have any questions – we will be happy to support you and welcome your contribution to Palliative Medicine in Practice.
