I was invited to do the after dinner talk about international leadership in palliative care nursing at the prestigious annual ‘International Journal of Palliative Nursing’ awards ceremony held at The Honourable Artillery Company, in the City of London, UK on Thursday 29 March. This event recognises excellence in palliative care nursing across the world and is funded by Macmillan Cancer Support, a UK-based charity.

This year’s winners included entrants from Albania, Australia, Cameroon, Chile, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, USA and

Among several winners from Europe was Irene Laska of Qendra Ekujdesit Palliativ, Korce, Albania. Irene received a Development Award for her successful campaign to equip doctors with a licence that allows them to prescribe opiates.
